Tuitions at Atelier Mae

Through a three-hour course, come and discover the main concepts surrounding the art of Shibari. Mantras, patterns, detailed demonstrations and techniques will be made available to you to enrich your experience. The focus will be on understanding, integrating, and adapting the principles covered to your own rope journey.

A space for learning, discovering and exploring Shibari

Classes are taught in 3-hour modules, focusing on a theme or level specified in advance in the event title. Generally, there will be time dedicated to pattern development, time for its application through guided exercises, as well as time for creativity and free practice, and time dedicated to physical and emotional safety for both participants. The exercises will first be demonstrated by your instructors, among themselves, and sometimes on volunteers. Classes and workshops are defined by level or theme: Floor & Patterns, Semi-Suspension, Suspension, Knots & Friction Workshops, Flow Workshops, themed workshops, workshops led by guest instructors, etc.

With consent at the heart of our concerns, we will always emphasize that no exercise is mandatory if it seems too far outside your risk profile. Respecting everyone's limits will be taken into account, and while pushing your limits can certainly be an integral part of rope work, you are ultimately responsible for what you wish to explore or not within the Workshop: therefore, never hesitate to contact us when you feel the need so that we can, if you wish, adapt an exercise to your risk profile.

After each exercise is demonstrated, participants will have a set amount of time to connect: this may be a single period, or split in two if some pairs wish to switch partners. When it is deemed that the overall dynamic of the exercise is nearing its end, you will be asked to detach yourselves and respect this timeframe for the smooth running of the group and the class.

Apart from introductory classes where equipment may be provided, you will be asked to bring your own ropes and suitable scissors. Carabiners or lanyards can be loaned. Classes are taught without nudity or BDSM practices; Atelier Mae aims to be a neutral space for practice and learning during the courses offered.
