Charter of Atelier Mae

A charter and code to underpin our community activities

Must be at least 18 years old.

The mats, tatami, and suspension structures provided in the space are the exclusive property of Atelier Mae.

Full nudity (genital exposure) is not permitted at the studio. However, going topless is allowed for everyone during jams (proper clothing is required during classes).

Please arrive and leave in street clothes. "Fetish" attire is NOT permitted outside the studio, in order to maintain the venue's discretion and respect the neighborhood.

We recommend wearing clothing that is comfortable for rope practice. However, please wear clothing and accessories that will not damage the tatami (avoid abrasive elements or protruding metal parts).

Practice guidelines – No genital exposure or sexually explicit acts (particularly those involving bodily fluids) are permitted. Exception: If saliva is used, the tatami must be appropriately protected.

Sensuality, power dynamics (transfers), and emotional intimacy may be part of the exploration, provided the environment remains respectful and consent is maintained between both partners.

Accessories (clamps, tenugui, etc.) are permitted provided they remain secondary to the rope practice itself. They must not introduce or substitute for other BDSM practices.

Rope practice is open to everyone, regardless of race, gender, or body type. We do not tolerate any discriminatory behavior within the workshop.

Food and drinks provided by your hosts must be consumed away from the mats and tatami areas.

A refrigerator stocked with refreshments is available at the workshop entrance; prices are listed on the sign placed on it. When taking a drink, please remember to place the cash in the designated box or mark it on your assigned drink card.

Shoes and coats must be left in the designated area at the entrance.

We ask participants to arrive free of any substances and to remain so throughout the event to ensure a mindful and informed practice.

Smoking is prohibited inside the building; however, an outdoor area is available for use, provided that quiet is maintained so as not to disturb neighbors or nearby activities.

Photography and videography are prohibited during classes and jams. However, note-taking and sketching are welcome. Any events where photography or videography is permitted will be clearly designated as such.

Workshop facilitators will indicate the start and end times of class sessions; please pay attention and avoid keeping other participants waiting, to ensure the class runs smoothly.

The available suspension points are the property of Atelier Mae; please attach your own carabiner to the pre-installed suspension points.

We permit *Hashira* practice on the workshop’s wooden and metal beams.

Suspensions require the approval of the teaching team and/or workshop assistants, who reserve the right to authorize or deny them based on the participants' skill level, experience, and practice conditions.

Sessions taking place during classes or jams must be based on the valid, enthusiastic, and informed consent of both partners. Please be considerate and aware of the implications and risks of rope practice; to this end, discussions regarding sensitive areas (both physical and emotional) must take place, and a safeword must be agreed upon by both participants. Any behavior that exploits "gray areas" or proves detrimental to a participant will result in the session being halted and, if necessary, immediate expulsion from the rope area.

The Atelier Mae’s standard safeword is "stop." It mandates an immediate halt to the activity and prompt untying. A discussion may follow, if desired, to review the factors that led to the session being stopped.

CNC (Consensual Non-Consensual) sessions are not permitted within the Studio, except with the prior agreement of the organizers.

As an observer, please maintain a respectful distance to preserve the dynamics of ongoing sessions.

In the event of a physical emergency, do not hesitate to ask the Studio staff for help detaching someone. Suitable scissors and other tools are available for everyone to use and remain the property of Atelier Mae.

A first aid kit is available in the space, containing the necessary supplies for basic care (disinfectant, bandages, splinters, burns, wraps, etc.).

Participants acknowledge that they practice at their own risk and commit to looking after their own physical safety as well as that of their partner. Each participant declares that they are covered by valid liability insurance. The organizer cannot be held liable for any bodily injury or property damage occurring during the practice.

Studio staff and helpers reserve the right to halt any rope session deemed dangerous for the participants or for the physical or emotional well-being of the audience.

The jam area is a shared practice space: be mindful of your own space, but also—and above all—of the space occupied by other participants. Everyone is expected to adopt a respectful and non-intrusive attitude toward others and their equipment. Likewise, a rope session remains a special, intimate moment between the people creating it; never intervene in a session you are not part of.

Finally, please be kind and welcoming to one another. If you notice a situation that is inappropriate, dangerous, or risky, do not hesitate to inform the Studio staff.
