Introductory Shibari Course - Start from scratch!

Come discover the basics of the art of shibari!

Through a 3-hour course which explores the premises of ties and a style of moving ropes, we will invite you, in all humility, to discover the different aspects relating to the art of tying people: presentation discipline, anatomical reminders, consent and safety of each person (rigger as a model) will be at the center of this initiation afternoon, without forgetting of course numerous exercises around the first ties and patterns.

What is shibari? What apprenticeships are offered to you?

This is the art of tying people up using ropes. Closely linked to the concept of bondage and the sexuality it implies, shibari can also be an opportunity for plays that are always consensual, allowing the development of trust, an emotional bond or even moments of challenge and surpassing oneself. It is this development that we choose to explore here at Atelier Mae.

Our rope practice is intended to be “neutral” in the sense that it is free of sexuality and BDSM-oriented games. If of course intimacy and sensuality can be at the heart of the subject, the style of ropes that we practice is more articulated around the manipulation of bodies, movement, dance and minimalism which will allow us to stage superb ephemeral postures. Sporty, gentle, powerful, emotional, we see the practice of shibari as an absolutely magnificent rope path to take, punctuated by great moments of happiness, but also of doubt, and physical/emotional challenges, and it is with great joy that we invite you to take part alongside us.

Terms

60 euros per pair. The course will be given from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the following address: 22 Rue Grandgagnage in 5000 Namur (at the back of the “Mauvaise Graine Café”).

Course program

• Presentation of shibari
• Reminder of security and consent rules
• First tying exercises around the single column tie
• First patterns of body exploration: the Enzo cycle
• Second pattern of body exploration: Gyaku-ashi
• Exercises around intention and creativity

Prerequisites and information

Come as you are! This course is aimed at rope beginners, and no specific experience is required. A few clarifications, however:

• Be 18 years or older
• Have a physical condition allowing you to practice shibari (do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions at this level)
• Preferably come in pairs (if you are alone, we can (without guarantee) help you find a partner)).
• Preferably come with a set of three 8 meter ropes (ropes will be available on site if needed, do not hesitate to let us know in advance if you need them!)
• Snacks and drinks will be offered to you free of charge during the breaks, but if you would like to share something made by you, don't hesitate!

Who are we ?

The course will be presented and led by Eric & Laurianne, practicing shibari for 5 years. At that time, we discovered the practice of ropes with the desire and curiosity to share an activity that could allow us to get closer and maintain our complicity. We very quickly began our apprenticeship at Yoroi-Dojo in Brussels (led by Nicolas Arnoys, formerly known as Nicolas Yoroi) and fell in love with his rope style. We are now evolving on our path thanks to the influence of certain memorable workshops and our desire to develop our practice around rope dancing, movement and emotional intimacy.
